What are Ballad Cities?

 Ballad Cities isn’t a desk project. It’s a long road of return and discovery — a twelve-year cycle of 100 city visits across six nations. In each place, the work is gathered on the ground: what is heard, what is learned, what is witnessed, and what must be written while the ink is still wet.

Ballad Cities is told in two companion lines:

Ballad Cities — the main volumes: the sung account of the road, shaped as story and testimony. 

Margins — the companion books: the travel journals, unseen notes, documents, encounters, and fragments that don’t fit neatly in the song, but must not be lost. 

Together they form a single record: ‘City Ballads’, and the ‘Margins’ that prove it was lived.

 Ballad Cities is woven into the wider Ballad Dodecet universe — music, broadcasts, blog dispatches, and field notes — with portals that let readers follow the journey as it happens.  Ballad Cities moves through Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland (Éire), and the United States.
Each place is a real location with real weight: geography, history, and the questions that still hang in the air.  -
